It is winter here in Chile. It doesn't get cold enough to snow in Vina/Valpo (the cities I live in) It does, however, rain. It doesn't really rain the whole rest of the year. Just winter. The good thing is...there are only a few days of rain in a row. All other days are clear sunny skies. Chileans are hilarious on rainy days.
If you get even two drops of rain on you, you must change your clothes and drink a hot cup of tea right away.
Their drainage systems...fail.
It is neither weird nor wimpy for men to use umbrellas. Rain is an acceptable excuse not to go to school. or work. or anywhere. You think I'm joking? I heard these conversations.
Profe: por que no estuviste en clase ayer?
Student: it was raining tan fuerte where I live. I didn't want to catch cold.
Profe: ah si. it's better to stay inside
Pastor: we missed you last week in church. everything alright?
Member: yes yes. It was just because of the rain.
Pastor: oh yes, of course (not sarcastic)
Here is a picture of right outside my house. clearly I cannot get out to go to school...guess I'll stay home all day instead :)
