oh, baby!

We had a gender reveal party with both of our families last weekend. It was pretty fun! Gender reveal parties (which should be called sex reveal, but that's just too awkward to invite your grandparents to...) are trending big time. I've heard of balloon releases, cake filling surprises, and silly string wars so far. People are creative! It sure is a fun way to find out all together instead of just hearing it from the sonographer at the doctor's office.

We opted for the cupcakes. Because who doesn't want an excuse to eat more cake! My trusty pastry-chef-friend got to open the secret envelope from the sonographer and made the cupcakes for us. I'm hoping she didn't trick us...maybe I should have asked for a second secret envelope so I could double check her reading skills :p

Representatives from both Steven's family and my own came out for the big reveal. I felt a little bit bad for people driving a whole hour just to eat a cupcake... but I think we all had a good time hanging out afterwards. We even got some pretty decent parenting advice from the pros thanks to a thoughtful question from brother Seth (no, he's not a monk). Okay, okay enough with all the background story. On with the exciting part.

 We found out we're having...a....

GIRL!

I was more surprised to find the pink icing than I thought I would be. I didn't know how much I expected to see blue until I was looking at pink! But I got over it pretty quickly. We're excited to be having a sweet baby girl. Now that we know, we're trying to work a little harder on picking the name. But it's a big responsibility - one I don't take lightly. And I'm not entirely sure that I'll be totally settled on it until I see her face...or maybe even until I see it in print on her birth certificate....and maybe not even then.

Here's a picture from the latest ultrasound. Look at that cute little nose! Can't wait to meet her.
