Arts and Crafts: Winter edition

Christmas decorations.
Setting them up is fun; taking them down is not.
So far, I haven't been able to convince the practical side of my brain to spend money on a Christmas tree or other holiday decor. Sometimes I feel a little glum about the lack of holiday cheer. But all I have to do is take a trip to the mall to get an overload of that!
I'm just not really that great of a decorator in general - Christmas or no Christmas. And I find it intimidating to go out and buy things that I'm not sure I will end up using. So I'll just wait to slowly accumulate them from thrift stores, yard sales, and the side of the road on trash day.

In an effort to avoid being a total Grinch this Christmas, I did take a little time to make a holiday craft that is adding a glimmer of Christmas cheer to our little apartment. And it only cost me $1!

Step 1: Gather pine cones.
I checked a few crafty websites to figure out the best way how to do this. Many of them recommended baking your pine cones to kill any critters that may be hiding out. Bonus: it makes your house smell like pine!

Step 2: Add Glitter Glue
I found this bottle in the $1 shelves at Target. I'm sure craft stores have tons of options you can choose from. I just went around the pine cone and added a stripe of glitter to each tip.

Step 3: Arrange
Luckily my brother-in-law bought a tree with his housemates and donated the trimmings to me! Looking good. I think I might put some white paint under the glitter glue on some of the rest of the pine cones to give them more of a snow-kissed look.
