What do I do while waiting our baby to be born? Crafts!
I printed pictures over a year ago and still haven't hung them because I can never decide on frames. Our poor walls have been bare for so long. Then my friend and co-worker told me about a neat little craft that could solve my problem.
homemade canvas photos! |
It's super simple.
materials:
- printed pictures (mine were glossy finish, matte would work too)
- canvas boards in matching sizes (or an exacto-knife to cut pictures to size)
- mod podge (cheapest at Wal-mart, I used the matte finish. My friend used glossy)
- paint or sponge brush
- scrapbook paper
Step 1.
Select paper to match photo.
Cut in strips to match the length of the canvas
(two 5" and two 7" for a 5x7 picture).
(two 5" and two 7" for a 5x7 picture).
Make strips wide enough to wrap around the edges.
Paint mod podge on the back of a strip, line it up on an edge and smooth it around the sides of the canvas to create a wrapped look.
Step 2:
Paint mod podge on canvas, line up and attach picture.
Press gently but firmly.
yes, I forgot the first step on my first canvas. learn from me, peeling off the picture is not much fun. |
Step 3:
Paint mod podge on top of picture.
This creates a protective coating and also adds a nice texture.
If you're brave, try blotting it with a cloth or sponge.
I just used multi-directional brush strokes to add texture.
Don't worry, it dries clear! |
Now I just have to hammer in some nails to hang them!
The bigger two were still drying... |
Note: You may want to leave some dry time between steps 2 and 3. One of mine ended up bubbling a bit and I think it was because the picture got too wet. Or maybe I didn't smooth it on firmly enough?
those look awesome!
