Scene:
It's Friday morning and everything is bright and shiny!
The babies are happily playing and/or sleeping while I wash up the dishes and sing "I've got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in my Heart."
All of a sudden, things go drastically downhill...
One child is screaming at the top of their lungs.
Another child is streaking across the living room in the nude.
Still another child (how did there get to be so many?) is sucking on a vile of liquid hand sanitizer.
I am standing there staring at all of it while dish water drips down my fingers into a puddle on the floor.
This is life with 3 under 3.
Yes, I read the hand sanitizer for warnings regarding ingestion. and I tasted it too because the last time I tasted any (Monday. Monday was the last time I tasted it. Why is this my life?) it was revolting. This brand was actually sweet and delicious but, according to the label, can still cause alcohol poisoning.
So I made Little drink a glass of water and I downed* the rest of the sanitizer myself.
*as in dumped it down the sink
And so we all live another day.
The biggest thing I've noticed in this adventure of adding a third tiny person to our household is that my patience does not last as long as it used to. It could be the sleep deprivation. It could be the physical exhaustion of giving birth and letting a small large baby feed off of me. It's probably mostly because they're all so dang needy at the exact same time - which is all day long. And by golly I have needs too!
Four. That's four needy people to take care of.
To solve this problem of neediness eating up my patience,
I am trying to be a little more organized and grounded.
Two things that have helped:
- keeping a bullet journal (learn more here)
- meditation/prayer (learn more here*)
*Instead of just focusing on my breath, I repeat various sections of "Be still and know that I am God" or "The LORD is my Shepherd; I have all that I need" (NLV). Because let's be honest, patience is a fruit of the Spirit and just listening to my God-given lungs is not going to get me as far as relying on Him will.
And now: some fotos of my 3

So many thoughts from the photos. (I did read the blog! You handled that sanitizer thing so calmly!) 1. Little #1 has that look in her eye! 2. Little #2 has changed SO much!! 3. Little #3's shirt should say "sleep bandit" or "energy bandit" Love your stories.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy your blogs Rachel! They are pretty hilarious , and you can't make this stuff up. keep your head up it will get better. You are in the worst time 4 tiredness. Three under three is a lot tell your hubby to step it up, but it looks like he's doing a great job helping you.
