Day 1: Thirty Days of Thankfulness

It's NOVEMBER! - possibly my favorite month of the year, for sooo many reasons. #colorfultrees #weathervariety #THANKSGIVING

This year, I have decided to do a thing. Scratch that. I have decided to do two things!

Thing one: I will make my bed every day for 30 days. The purpose? To see why so many successful, well-rounded people list this simple act as their key to success. And also because it makes my room look a whole lot neater.

Thing two: I will list 10 things I am thankful for every day. Preferably 10 things I haven't already listed, but you know what? Let's not get too carried away with rules and regulations. I've read enough (or husband has summarized enough podcasts for me) to know that gratitude is a really healthy thing. It's trendy for the month of November and I can use it as a writing prompt to get back to blogging after weeks of silence post baby #3. Win-win-win!

Today's Ten Things:

1. Coffee. Because Mmmmm, you are so soothing. And essential after too many long nights in a row.
2. Friends who invite themselves over and share their hearts. Because I am too easily lost in my own world of naps and feeding schedules.
3. A really involved husband who wakes up early and does the dishes with zero hinting or prompting from me. And who also wakes up to help calm crazy babies in the middle of the night. (He is the number one reason I did not limit myself to coming up with ten new things every day. You can be sure he'll be appearing in these lists again.)
4. Our warm house. The days of trying to keep a wood stove going all day and keep my Littles from being burned are not far behind me! A heat pump powered by natural gas is more than a dream come true for this miser.
5. Nurse friends who suggest giving our kiddo half a dose to avoid unwanted side effects. It's working!
6. Calm, soothing music on a cold, cloudy day. Music used to go totally unnoticed and unappreciated by me. But my firstborn is all about it and has taught me to appreciate it too.
7. Bite sized devotionals that I can actually read in under five minutes and chew on all day.
8. NAPS. (Okay, these might also be the number one reason I cannot limit myself to 10 new things.) When the kids nap. When I nap. The more, the (literally) merrier. Give us all the naps!
9. Cinnamon. It tricks my kids into thinking there's sugar in their oatmeal when there isn't. It adds the most soothing flavor to my coffee. It makes butter better on bagels. It smells delightful.
10. Evenings in. Sometimes being stuck at home with kids that go to bed before most people have started dinner is a drag. Most times I'm thankful for the excuse to stay home with Husband.

Comments

  1. I make my bed because 1)Mom said so... now it's a habit. 2)It does look so much better and makes the sheets feel fresher. 3) I can always say I did one productive thing today even if it's the last productive thing I accomplish. I wonder if it keeps me from crawling back into the bed on these crisp mornings?
