Adventures in San Antonio: 3 Kids on a Plane

We planned. We packed. We went!
I forgot my travel journal, so you get the benefit of hearing about our trip here.

This post is my inspiration for minimalist packing. We were packing for 2 weeks, but we knew we'd have a washer and dryer so I only packed 3 shirts and 2 pants for myself and the kids (plus the pair we wore). We ordered diapers ahead of time using our Target REDcard so they would arrive the day or two after we did, saving us lots of space in our carry-ons.

This. plus 3 car seats, a double stroller, and a back pack carrier (which was a life-saver in the airports).

Child labor.

My favorite age is 12-18 months. This holds true when buying airplane tickets. This does not hold true when flying on airplanes.  When flying on airplanes, my favorite age is 32. And 5 year-olds are a close second.

We picked the late flight because we mistakenly thought we were avoiding a 3 hour layover. We misread. There was no 3 hour layover on the earlier flight, only on our flight because our second plane was delayed.
But no worries! The airport had plenty of food, all of which cost $9 - pre-made sandwiches, fresh panini, a cup of strawberries, etc.
Ever the bargain hunters (#miserlife), we walked the whole way back to the other side of the airport where we'd seen a Burger King. Surely they couldn't be selling fries for $9. They weren't! But their payment system did go down while we were in line.
Not to worry! Panda Express was right next door with 3 entrees for $7! The line was 30 people long, but we had nothing but time. Their payment system also went down.
$9 Turkey with Brie, please.
When we finally got to our gate (which was switched from one side of the airport to the other, making this our 4th walk from side to side) we saw FREE sandwiches waiting for us as an apology for the wait. We took a few in case we got hungry (because do we ever turn down FREE?), but we never did.

So it took us longer than we'd hoped, but we made it! We sweet talked the flight attendants and got extra snacks. Our seats were 2 by 2 with an aisle in between and an empty window seat on each side! All three babies fell asleep - one on the floor of the cabin after much struggle and many attempts to escape.

During landing when we did pick him up off the floor.

We were picked up by the most gracious support team in the state (who are also far more intelligent than we are in both reading and math and accurately assessed that the earlier flight was the most superior, and thus had already arrived and rented the car and found the Air BnB while they waited for us to get our act together) who also happen to be our siblings <3.

Our house here is pretty near my dream design. Our backyard is large and fenced in. There is a school bus transportation center across the street that has captured Oswald's heart as well as a park a few streets over that has ducks and slides. Right now you'll have to excuse me because it's time to venture to the local library. More later.
