Adventures in San Antonio: Weekend Tourists

The company he works for sent Steven to San Antonio for two weeks, but we don't let him get away that easily; we made him take us with him.

We spent the first week exploring the places within walking distance.

Over the weekend we got to go downtown as tourists and watch a parade of bulls (with a 3 person PETA protest) as well as check out the Alamo.

It's free to go in the Alamo and there are lots of neat little performances and demonstrations, but of course I forgot to take pictures. Ellie got to make a corn husk doll which I convinced her to name Maizey. ;)

We celebrated Ellie's birthday in San Antonio with some gelato.
She shares her birthday with Honey Gramps and was disappointed to be away from him on their special day. We thought long and hard about something fun we could do in San Antonio to make the day special for Ellie and decided on: Ear piercing! Happy 5th birthday, lovey.

Thanks to our siblings/traveling buddies/babysitters, Husband and I got to go out on a date and explore the Riverwalk in its night-time glory.

We started the evening off with Mexican food and then walked around until the food had compacted enough that we could squeeze in an ice cream cone at a cute little (expensive) chocolate shoppe. Before we had gotten 3 licks in, Steven decided to walk into moving traffic (he's walked into cars before). My face being stuck in my ice cream cone, I did the only thing left to do to save his life: safety arm block - you know, the one your mom does when she brakes too hard and you're in the front seat beside her. Well it knocked Steven's (expensive) ice cream cone right out of his hand. But don't fret, he caught it splat in the palm of his hand. Not having the kids along meant we didn't have the diaper bag along which meant no baby wipes which meant Steven licked his hand "clean." I guess you had to be there. Thankfully, he was much more cautions while walking the Riverwalk or we'd have ended up wet! Anyone else who has been there struggle not to push other pedestrians in the water? I am evil.
